The Halle de Mirande

This beautiful building in the style of the Halles Baltard in Paris dates from the end of the 19th century (1886). Its distinctive feature is its mixed architecture: it harmoniously combines a fine cut stone structure with an interior framework of iron, cast iron and wood.
Beautifully renovated in 2004, it is used for markets.
As stipulated in the charter of customs of the bastide town of Mirande, founded in 1281, the market day is still held on Mondays.
A small fresh produce market is also held every Saturday morning.
Theme markets are also organised from time to time: Basque market, European market, Christmas market....
The Halle de Mirande is also used for a variety of events.
The hall is accessible to people with reduced mobility, has accessible toilets, a bar and free parking.

Museum of Fine and Decorative Arts

The Musée des Beaux Arts de Mirande was founded in 1832 in the sub-prefecture of the southern Gers.
Founded by Joseph Delort, a prominent Mirande man of letters and art lover, who was in charge of the Fine Arts section of the Ministry of the Interior at the time, the Musée des Beaux Arts de Mirande boasts a remarkable collection of paintings. Italian, Flemish and French paintings from the 15th to the 19th century, mainly devoted to portraits.
Old decorative earthenware from the main workshops in south-west France completes the collection wonderfully, making this museum, along with the one in Auch, the richest collection of classical art in the Gers department.
All rooms, including the 1st floor, are accessible. Accessible toilets. Car park nearby.

St Mary's Church of Mirande

A 15th-century church with an astonishing arched bell tower.
This church was a cathedral from 1410 to 1413. Inside you can admire stained glass windows and the stations of the Cross painted by Louis Boulanger, Victor Hugo's friend. The Assumption of the Virgin Mary was painted in 1680 by Antoine COYPEL, painter of Louis XIV. This painting is on the former high altar of the Abbey of Berdoues, which is surmounted by a baldachin.
